Back to Kabul

Hamida, one of Belkes' sisters-in-law, at a monument for her sister Nafida.
In 1993, during the civil war, the appartment of her family was attacked by
a couple of mujaheddin. These men were known for their cruelties against
women, like kidnapping and raping them until they died. During the attack,
Nafida (14 years) was so scared, that she jumped from the balcony of the
house on the 6th floor to escape
this potential fate. She did not survive.
Neighbours and admirers of the girl founded a monument at the place were
she died. Later a street, next to the Ghazi Stadium in Kabul, was named in
honour of Nafida
